Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
I could tell it was gonna be a good day when it started off with Tommy and me doing an early morning dive (always a great experience), followed by a group sail to Cooper Island. The trip over was fantastic. A couple of us got a chance to drive the boat and get a review of how sailing worked from Joe. Anna taught us all the basics on how to identify fish, and then we were off on a Fish ID Dive at the Blue Chromis Reef. Emmy, Rachel, Maya, and Regan managed to find a nurse shark, just chilling under a rock!
Meanwhile, Garret identified six whole fish-but no half fish and certainly no quarter fish, which we both agreed was insane. Later, after lunch, we sailed over to Savannah Bay-a couple of us, including Maya, Paul, and I, fell asleep during some of the sails, and Tessa and Rachel made some friendship bracelets. Halfway through the sail to Savannah, Rachel, Anya, Paul, and I sat up by the power tower and asked Joe and Anna a bunch of marine research/sailing questions. We had a bit of textbook reading to do, so Derek joined the rest of us up on the power tower to ‘read’-but we really just joked around most of the time. We did ocean showers, and a group jumped off the side of the boat while Logan and Noah made hotdog alfredo for dinner. For squeeze, I brought back Paul’s iconic quote: “Oh, Darwin. I heard about that guy once. SKIP!” in reference to a section in our reading on marine organism evolution. Then, we went around and shared the weirdest category to jump into the water with-The French Revolution and a cellphone tower were some of the funniest. Finally, we ended the squeeze with a clap, snap, and yelling, “LONG LIVE THE QUEEN” (loud enough for the other boats to hear, of course).
