Welcome Aboard!
Location: West End, Tortola
The crew of Soul Rebel is bursting with excitement to meet the new crew of shipmates and welcome them aboard. Joe, Anna, and Tommy have been working hard to prepare everything over the last few days. The dive gear’s been inspected, the PFDs counted, and the food stowed. Our home for the next 21 days is shipshape, and we cannot wait for the 12 new shipmates to arrive to complete our Soul Rebel family. We can’t wait to don our SCUBA tanks and explore the beautiful reefs the British Virgin Islands have to offer. For now, Joe, Anna, and Tommy will be waiting to see the first ferry with shipmates to show up on the horizon.
Here’s an intro to the crew of Soul Rebel.
Joe - Skipper and Marine Biologist
Joe was born and raised in Bolton, UK. He discovered his passion for the marine world when training to become a freediving instructor. After that, he did a master’s degree in Marine Ecology at the University of the Balearic Islands in Mallorca. He learned to sail in the wild and windy waters of the UK and is super excited to bring his passion for marine ecology and sailing to all the shipmates at ActionQuest!
Anna - Marine Biologist and Divemaster
Anna is returning to AQ this summer after teaching the Dolphin program in 2021, and she is so excited to be back! She is from the Central Coast of California and has worked as a marine naturalist, field researcher, and scientific illustrator around the world. She received her B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley, in Conservation and Resource Studies and has worked as a Marine Science Instructor in San Diego and French Polynesia. Anna has a master’s certificate in Science Illustration from Cal State University, Monterey Bay, and she loves to use art as a way to communicate environmental biology. She is excited to share her love of marine biology, sailing, and diving this summer!
Tommy - Skipper and Dive Instructor
Tommy was born and raised in the illustrious state of Delaware and will return to AQ this summer! Before becoming a part of the team, Tommy spent the last six years working as a Master Scuba Diver Trainer, a dive boat captain, and a coral reef research diver in both Mexico and the Cayman Islands. When out of the water and following a passion and propensity for environmental education and teaching in general, Tommy now works as a science teacher and middle school soccer coach. In his spare time, he loves going for long walks on the beach, getting caught in the rain, looking for excuses to quote Shrek, and researching clichés. He is ecstatic about his second summer working with ActionQuest, and he can not wait to pass on his knowledge to his students and shipmates this summer!
