Location: Anegada
Hey everyone, this is Kaya writing about our spirit-filled day! I began my day early when the very heavy wind woke me up at around 4 AM. Arthur was also woken up because the wind shook his hammock. We really began the day at 7:30 AM for breakfast. I always look forward to our wake-up song because it gets our boat ready for the day. Today’s breakfast was French toast made by Alivia and Sahil. They even made some with cinnamon sugar, which is one of the best breakfasts I have eaten on this trip. Then, we embarked on a 2-hour sail to Anegada, a very low elevated island for the boat Olympics. To do so, we split into our watch teams. My watch team took up the anchor, and Leila and I were on button duty, which went very well. Then we spent some time on the helm, steering the boat. During the sail, many of us sat outside on the net (in our PFDs, of course) and enjoyed the breeze and views.
When we got to Anegada, we ate sandwiches for lunch. To prepare for the Olympics, our whole boat used zinc sticks to make designs on our faces. I did zinc for Michelle by writing Beso on her arms. We also did dots, stripes, and drawings. We used the dingy to reach the beach. Of course, we won the tug of war. It was a very exciting two hours of cheering everyone on. The energy has been so high today. Grace worked so hard that her hands were red the rest of the day. The island was beautiful because it looked straight out of a magazine. Once we finished our activities, we went back to the boat to take our daily ocean shower. Ocean showers are the best part of my day. After everyone changed, Emma got so excited because there were multiple turtles around the boat. Because of this, we had to get a closer look at the dinghy. They were so cute, and we tried to feed them lettuce, but the wind was not in anyone’s favor. The water also got us wet again!
When we arrived at Beso, most of the people sat in the outside space, sharing snacks. Laurel, Avery, Carlie, and I were eating Doritos when everyone joined us. Margaret and JT had a funny conversation with us, and it was so fun to just talk about things. Dinner was ready shortly after. At dinner, River and Dillon decided to steal my food, but it was delicious! Tonight’s sunset was the best of the trip. Everyone was doing dish pit while the sky was pink. We all sat in that corner of the boat just to admire the ocean and sunset! Now, we will probably stay up talking and enjoying the weather (hoping it does not rain tonight).
Sincerely,
Laurel, Avery, Arthur, Alivia, Dillon, Lelia, Sahil, Grace, Michelle, Kaya, Carlie, and River
