Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
This morning, we woke up to clouds and wind, and could immediately tell it was going to be rough waters today. Despite that, we continued to have a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs, blueberry muffins, and pineapple. Afterwards, we were suppose to start our six hour sail to Savannah Bay, but Eli and Cameron were begging to jump into the ocean. So, we all hopped in after our staff members gave us permission to. Ellory had to give Vaughn a little encouragement to take a quick morning swim. After that, we began our sail towards the bay. Our instructors split us into two groups, one who would sail first and the other who would take diving quizzes first. I, Breckyn, took the quizzes first, which was based on our studies from the night before. Everyone aced them, thankfully. We had a quick break after the test, where I shared pop corn with Ellory and Sloane on the trampoline. During this time, the waters were quite rough, and unfortunately, a few kids got sea sick. The groups switched, and we were sailing. Cameron and I were ‘sweating’, which is when you pull the line to raise the sail. Ellory was steering the helm and winching, while Magnus was pulling the slack. We were halfway to Savannah Bay when we decided to take a lunch break at Cooper Island. When we were done eating sandwiches, we hopped in the water again. Chase, Amy, Jada, Sloane, and Emily were trying to figure out ways to scare the boys in the water, but none of them worked out. Not long after we set sail again, but while on the rough waters, our sail got tangled in the lazy jacks. Our amazing instructors fixed it after a bit. We continued to sail, but I’ll be honest, I don’t know what happened the last hour of sailing because I took a nap on the bridge, which is behind the helm. Although, I heard Finn was sharing tic tacs with everyone. Once we reached Savannah Bay, we anchored and started dinner. We had Alfredo pasta with sliced hot dogs and garlic bread. Eli started throwing food up into the air, which lead us to feeding and attracting seagulls. While doing this, our directors, Jake and Mike, boat pulled in. We yelled their names, and they made a sharp turn on their monohull to pass our boat. We started throwing food to them, and they tried to catch it, but the seagulls were getting it first. Once they left, we cleaned up for the night and began our diving studies.
