British Virgin Islands - 2024, Session 1

IT’S GO TIME!

Location: West End, Tortola

Welcome to S/Y Avizia

Our team can't wait to set sail! We have been working nonstop to get the boat ready for departure day. From getting to know each other as staff to stocking up on food to getting ready to teach, we can't wait to share this experience with our students!

Some staff facts

Our adventurous skipper, Mike

Mike is from the sailing city of Newport, RI. He attended the University of Rhode Island and, after graduating with a degree in Marine Affairs, realized he wanted to work on the Ocean and started his career on Superyachts. He became a second engineer and is looking to expand into captaining. Mike achieved his Sail and Power Yachtmaster back in March and May. He looks forward to sharing his passion and knowledge with his crew this year!

The enthusiastic mate/medic, Annika

Annika was born outside Las Vegas but has lived all around the US. She started sailing and diving aboard S/Y Vela in the Spring of 2022 and has been hooked ever since! Annika attends school at Loyola Marymount University in Southern California, studying Psychology and Environmental Studies, and is thrilled to live closer to the ocean! She has worked with yacht clubs to outfit and maintain various boats in the past and loves nothing more than sharing her passions and excitement with others on the water. Annika is also an avid diver, especially fascinated with sea slugs and kelp forests. When not on a boat, she also enjoys rock climbing, surfing, soccer, and learning new things!

And finally, our delightful dive instructor, JT

Growing up in Northern Virginia, JT discovered his love for sailing and scuba diving during his four summers as a student with ActionQuest. He has always loved teaching, and as the Boatswain on the University of Delaware sailing team, he's enjoyed running practices and teaching new members of various skill levels. JT is going to be a Junior Computer Science student. When not on the water, he typically spends time with friends and family, working on various projects in the MakerSpace on campus or exploring local coffee shops. He is excited to work for ActionQuest and spend another summer in paradise!
