Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Hey everyone, it’s Landon! Welcome back to day 17 of ActionQuest!
We all hopped out of bed at 7 am to get prepared for the gigantic race that was ahead of us! As soon as we woke up, we all had a nice bowl of cereal, and then I had to go to a skipper meeting about the race. Garrett and I took a dinghy over to another boat where the skipper meeting was being held. All the skippers arrived, and we went over the rules of the race. We eventually had to choose the position we would be in the race, 1-9. One is the most windward side, and 9 is the most leeward side, so we were rooting for that #1 spot. But we got 3, which we were pretty happy with. We sailed back to our boat, and I saw Carla and Kai waving at us from the power tower, which was nice. After we got there, we all discussed what everyone’s job was in the race. We had to hurry, though, because the race started at 9 am. Charles, Luke, and I were all deciding everyone’s jobs, and we finished on a pretty good setup. We got everyone up to the power tower, and we all started to prepare for the race. Amelia, Carla, and Alex all started to sweat the main halyard while Eli, Kai, and I got ready to pull out the jib. As we prepared, we saw all the other boats lining up. Once it was go time, we pulled up the jib and took sail! Luke and Chase were at the helm, steering us, as Christina and Juni were long-lining. Seeing all the boats start charging for the finish line was so cool.
Overall, the race went pretty smoothly. We are all mostly focused on having a fun time! We listened to music, relaxed on the power tower, and sang songs with each other. At the end of the race, we didn’t get first overall, but we got second amongst the lagoons! We all got to shore, and we all had a strict curfew of 12:30, but I had to be back at 12 for the second race. A lot of our boat went to the grocery store, which was one of the nicest grocery stores I’ve seen! After a little shopping, everyone settled down at this one restaurant for lunch.
Drake and Juni got some avocado toast, and Kai got a massive pepperoni pizza! Our boat won the second race! Everyone was super excited. The waves when we were sailing were CRAZY!!! Everyone sat on the nets on the bow and got splashed hundreds of times! Juni got splashed so much it looked like he took a dip in the ocean. The waves would make you feel like you’re flying. It was so cool! After that, Drake, Eli, and Chase chilled on the power tower while Kai and I took a nap in the salon. We arrived at our stop, and everyone took a swim in the ocean. Luke got an apple that everyone played catch with! Arden started to cook dinner and told us to start showering, so we all hopped out of the ocean to take an ocean shower. Drake got chased by some giant fish, which everyone laughed at. While we were showing, Eli and Charles were flipping off the dinghy, but Arden showed them up by doing one of the best backflips I’ve seen. We all got ready for dinner, and Luke helped cook dinner! Christina was sketching some boats while Charles was doing pull-ups to impress the girls. Alex cleaned the whole deck while Kai put out all the silverware, and everyone sat down for dinner. Today was breakfast for dinner, and we all had such a fun time chatting while we ate. After that, we had a long clean up in the dishy pit, and we all ran around the boat having fun and playing games with everyone on the boat! We were all so tired after today, and we all dozed off to sleep.
