Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Hey, yalllll, this is Amelia here, writing from Great Harbor Peter in the Bviiiiis! Today was a special day cause it’s Roan Day!! To explain, basically, the Roan is an old British ‘Royal Post Ship’ that sank during a hurricane. We now get to dive hundreds of years later, and coral has grown over it! It’s the deepest, most exciting, and most fun dive of the camp, but because of this, we had to start the day kinda early with milk and cereal cooked by Juni and Chase 😉 After that we then quickly sailed to Salt Island (where the Roan is), and headed over to Highlander with the whole gang to meet Tyler and go diving. Before the dive, the staff explained the whole story of the Roan, both a sailing and steamship that was supposed to be unsinkable. Until it got caught in a hurricane with a passenger ship that sent its passengers to it to weather the storm. Because the passengers got in the way during the hectic storm, they tied them to their beds to keep them safe. However, the Hurricane proved too much for the mighty Roan, where it ran aground and exploded when the salt water touched the steam engine. Sadly, because of the passengers being tied down, none survived while the crew was fished up by the local Salt Island Natives. The dive itself was really cool, and Carla was amazinggggg as always, and during the dive, she saw two sting rays with Alex and Grace (their dive instructor), which practically makes her the boat’s Marine Biologist. Adding to the excitement, Chase Alex, Charles, Eli, Juni, and Luke are all finally getting certified, the first two finishing their Open Waters and the last four getting their Advanced Open Waters! Sadly, Drake couldn’t dive today ‘cause he couldn’t equalize his ears. But hopefully, he will be able to dive tomorrow instead. Even the staff got to have a blast with the dive as both Garrett and Arden go to dive today, too! Because of the dive, we were all super hungry and had Ramen for lunch and sailed to Peter Island, where we are now. Christina was very helpful during the sail by helping with Sumo, which we all know can be hard cause Sumo is quite old and fat. After that, we got to hang out and do ocean showers, which were fun, if not as satisfying as a regular shower. In the afternoon, we spent a lot of time lounging before dinner, with Landon drawing a lot and Charles practicing his dives and flips for a while. Finally, we ended the day with Garrett’s beautifully cooked rice and Chase’s somewhat watery beef. After this, the day had gone very quietly except for when Kai dropped a bowl while I was writing this, which really startled me. Overall, this has been a fantastic day, but I look forward to Road Town tomorrow!
