The day started off bright and early at 5:30 AM with everyone waking up to the crowing of roosters and a beautiful sunrise. We ate a meal which consisted of cereal and yogurt. Everyone had to be at the dock before 7 AM where we all got briefed on what the first part of the day would consist of. Our first activity was three and a half mile long hike in both directions. The destination was the highest point in the US Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands – the peak of Mount Sage. The start of the hike was along a steep road which lasted for a mile, and while everyone was walking up this section, it started to rain which made it even harder. The rest of the hike was much easier. There were more uphill parts, but all of them had only a slight incline except for the last stretch which was as steep as the first part. Along the way, there were many gorgeous sights. You could see islands, reefs, sandbars, and many other things. The second and third miles were pretty calm. At the end of the hike, there was a small store which sold smoothies, souvenirs, sodas, and snacks. The store wasn’t at the end of the hike there was still the nature reserve. When we made it to the highest point, everyone signed a sheet of paper to determine their placing. After the hike, most students went to a beachfront restaurant which is rumored to be the inspiration for Jimmy Buffet’s song Cheeseburger in Paradise. At 1 pm the dinghies started to shuttle everyone back to their boats. As soon as everyone got back to the boat, we headed out to Sandy Cay where there was a sand sculpture competition. For our design we had Charlie come out of a birthday cake which is fitting because today was his birthday turning 14 years old. After, the sandcastle competition we took Hibiclens showers. And to end the day off, we had a BBQ.
