Location: English Harbor, Antigua
After a recovering night’s sleep from the hike the day before, everyone was refreshed and ready to tackle small boat sailing. With the students from Meow or Never joining us, we walked for about 10 minutes from Old English Harbour to the small boats on the dock. Everyone, including the Meow students, was divided into groups of two or three for each of the boats. Me, Theo, and Ethen were in one group, Claire and Ari C were in another, followed by Aidan, Alejandro, and Anno, and lastly, Mary, Carolina, and Jada, all from Meow or Never. Nick, because of his knowledge of small-boat sailing, took a boat with Davis. Everyone learned how to tack and use the jib while experiencing the thrill and excitement of small boat sailing. After a couple of hours of intense sailing, everyone earned a long and exciting shore time on Old English Harbor and other surrounding harbors. Me, Theo, and Ian walked around the harbor while buying snacks for the long boat ride ahead and got souvenirs. After the amazing time on shore, it was time for a BBQ made by counselors, where they made delicious hot dogs, corn, hamburgers, and potatoes. But as a surprise, everyone celebrated Aidan’s birthday with ice cream on both boats. After everyone was full, Theo, Aidan, Ethen, and I played Palace, with Ian and Nick joining later to play Kems. Then everyone went to bed to get some sleep for the long sailing adventure.
