Location: Gustavia, St. Barths

After celebrating Aidan’s birthday on the boat the night before, we all woke up ready for a passage day. Everyone started the day by cleaning our cabins and making sure they were all ready for our twelve-hour sail from Antigua to St. Barts. Everyone ate a nutritious breakfast of eggs and bagels before we untied the boat from the dock and set sail. After a delicious lunch of chicken salad sandwiches, we were all told our watch teams. The first team was Aidan and Ari, the second team was Mark and Nick, and the last team was Theo and I. I slept for a few hours. Then we had a sail chat. We learned man-overboard recovery sail patterns. After the sail chat, I took another nap. After around an hour, I was woken up for my shift. I climbed up onto the power tower with Theo and began watching the boat.

Ari and Nick stayed up on the Power tower with us, and we debated why putting billboards in the ocean is a bad idea. Then we called Aidan up to the power tower to distract him from the cake that Margaux was putting in the oven. We had a conversation about how many Doritos factories were in the United States. After a successful diversion, Aidan went back to playing cards. Forty-five minutes after this, Margaux brought the cake out, and we all sang happy birthday to Aidan. Everyone ate a slice of cake then it was Aidan and Ari’s turn to take over the power tower. Aidan spent the last part of his birthday watching the stars over the ocean before we arrived in St. Barts at 11 o’clock.
