Location: St. Eustatia

Almost as soon as everybody woke up from their (hopefully) good night’s rest, we set sail on a shorter 5-hour passage from Wells Bay, Saba, to Oranjestad, Saint Eustatius(Statia). Once we lowered the anchor, Stella, Christina, and I started to tan on the transom, but Shawn and Henry decided that we couldn’t even do that, and they promptly jumped over us into the water, getting us wet. Shortly after, we had a great lunch of mac and cheese made by Lawson and Hayes. Then we all hopped on the dinghy to a dock on Statia, praying that it wouldn’t run out of fuel and get us to and from Hagen Time. Once everybody met up and said hello to their friends at Harbor House Out, we left for the trailhead that would lead us on a hike up a dormant volcano. The hike was challenging, but when we occasionally needed to stop for a short rest, we made sure to motivate Giles to keep moving up the volcano. When we got to a fork in the path near what we thought was the top of the mountain, some people went down into the crater, not knowing that they weren’t supposed to go down. When Riley FINALLY caught up with us(JK, he was just the last and quickly rallied everyone up to hike to see the view down into the crater. When we got close to the top, everyone stopped but Shawn, who actually hiked to the top of the volcano to see the view. Once we got a group photo with everybody from both boats, we hiked down the trail trying not to slip on the dirt and loose rocks. Once we finished our hike, we got our phones back and got to call or text our families and friends, or for some people, play games. We then did a little pit stop at a small grocery store, where Shawn proceeded to buy an entire tub of Neapolitan ice cream, throw out the lid, then convince himself he could finish it all(Spoiler alert: He didn’t). When we finally got back to our home away from home, we were met with beef stroganoff kindly prepared by Zoe. After dinner, we did a quick dishy-pit and took ocean showers where Mateo and Nate threw around a volleyball, hitting me twice. We then did a brief Lifeworks forum to end the day. Wooooooo!
