Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay

Today was our first student sail! We ate French toast with Nutella, made by Cooper and Cas. We started out by finding where we wanted to go and found the latitude and longitude, compass directions, and the estimated time it would take us. Sofia, Addie, Abby, Jamie, and Oliver expertly practiced their mooring ball skills before leaving Sidneys. Everyone practiced various knots that they will need to know for a sailing test in the future. As skipper, I was in charge of assigning different watch teams to different tasks. Everything went well getting off the mooring ball and hoisting sail, but then we could not catch any wind. We continued to work through this, however, with help from Jamie, who told us which direction to go in order to catch the most wind. We continued on and snacked on PBandJs during our sail. Everyone took turns on the helm, and when no one was doing anything, they napped and read. Because of our wind problems and a late start, we did not have time to make it to our previously planned location, so we looped back to Sandy Spit. Sofia, Abby, Cooper, and Jamie went diving, and Sofia, Abby, and Cooper got certified! In the meantime, everyone else went to a tiny, beautiful beach island and had fun lying in the sun and swimming and looking at the beautiful trees and rocks lying around. Arthur, Cooper, and Cas buried Oliver in the sand and turned him into a mermaid. We came back to Mango and showered, then had franks and beans for dinner with a side of cornbread and salad. During dinner, Odyssey threw an egg at our boat. We were ready to begin a prank war with them, but after learning that they wanted to put fish eyes in another boat’s peanut butter, we decided to form a truce instead. However, this did not stop us from performing some psychological warfare after the squeeze. We slowly circled around their boat multiple times, staring at them with straight faces while creepily whistling, and Jamie stood at the front of the dinghy leading the pack. After we were satisfied with our first few laps, we headed back to Mango and changed into the nightgowns that we wore to the first barbecue. After first driving by our friends in Beso for encouragement, we headed back to Odyssey for another loop equipped with creepy lights. Unfortunately, on our way home, Odyssey told us on the VHF that they would like to break the truce, so we are now officially in a prank war with them. We already have planned out our watch shifts for tonight to prevent them from pranking us.
