British Virgin Islands - 2023, Session 2

Welcome to Mango Tango!

Location: West End, Tortola

Welcome to Mango Tango! Over the next 21 days, we will be filling you in on all of our adventures, inside jokes, diving, sailing, and general fun-having through this blog. While we wait for our shipmates to arrive today for their very first day, we’d love to introduce you to the staff of Mango Tango. After three FABULOUS weeks on the water for session one, doing everything from dinghy backflips to diving shipwrecks, sailing in 2 races, and creating boom swings, we cannot wait to kick off session 2! Today, we scrubbed the boat from top to bottom, filled every crevice with food, and planned out how we could cram the most excitement possible into 21 days that will surely fly by. We are SO thrilled to meet you all and see what this session holds - but before we do that, let’s tell you a little bit about us.

Meet the staff!

Skipper / Medic - Allie
Growing up, Allie spent most of her time in the chilly waters of Cape Cod, spending summers working as a lifeguard and watersports instructor at Cape Cod Sea Camps. In the spring of 2020, she went on a Seamester voyage from South Africa to Antigua, where she had the time of her life. Upon graduating from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Cognitive Science last spring, Allie spent the summer working as a skipper at AQ and the winter sailing from Italy to Fiji as a mate/medic for Seamester. She loved being able to help others have as great of an experience at Action Quest as she did at Seamester. Allie got her Master of Yachts license this winter and is so excited to be back at AQ this summer and even more excited for dishy pit dance parties this summer. When she isn’t on the water (and sometimes when she is), she can be found dancing poorly, faking accents, and finding fun in unsuspecting places.

Dive Instructor - Stef

Stef started working for ActionQuest in the summer of 2022 as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. After being a student on Ocean Star with Seamester and receiving her first diving and sailing certifications, she’s thrilled to be back to boat life. When she’s not exploring the underwater world, Stef enjoys traveling, adventuring in the mountains of Colorado, and discovering new passions. While she enjoys these sports recreationally, Stef is an alpine ski instructor and tennis coach in her hometown. Finally, Stef is studying physics in North Carolina. She’s SO excited for some fun in the sun this session!

Mate - Sylvia

Sylvia is from Indianapolis, Indiana. Growing up, she spent many summers at the lake with her cousins, wakeboarding, wake surfing, riding jet skis, and tubing. Sylvia is graduating this summer from the University of Denver as an Integrated Sciences major focusing on Biology and Geography and a Spanish minor. Sylvia loves the mountains and skiing, but being in Colorado made her realize how much she missed the water. Luckily while in college, she got to do two Atlantic crossings on S/Y Argo and S/Y Vela. Sylvia loved these trips so much that she decided to pursue a career in this area in the future, so Sylvia went to St Maarten to get her Yachtmaster. Sylvia is excited to get back on the water this summer!
