Location: Statia

Today, we woke up to the lovely smell of French toast cooked by Peyton and Will at 7:30 am, and we prepared for our hike up the Quill trek. We started by walking up into the beautiful village of Statia. However, when we started our ascent up the trail, it started to pour rain. We felt like we were on a mountain slip n slide of mud and snakes, causing me to slip and stain my shorts, but it made this adventure interesting, as if we were in Indiana Jones. By the time we made it to the top, Scarlett had adopted a newfound love for parkour, and Roman had become a survival blogger. Once we reached the rim of the crater of Mt. Quill, half the group trekked an extra 10 minutes following our counselor, Ben, up a slippery, steep mountain with only a rope to keep us steady.
Afterwards, we dropped by the market where we stocked up on snacks and then had deli sandwiches on the boat for lunch and started our sail to Nevis. The first watch team, Will, Andrew, and Sadie, did an awesome job getting the main sail up. On the second watch, Celeste and Roman helmed as Scarlett filled out the trip logs and named the two birds, Mark and Jamie, who followed us the entire sail. Finally, on the third watch, Evan helmed the entire watch while Peyton and Will cooked for Mexican night, which was delicious. We spotted another pair of dolphins, and Andrew and Orly filmed the dolphins while they put on a show for us.
After dinner, we set up the dishy pit; to keep the person filling the bucket with water safe, we established the ‘human harness.’
During the last leg of our night sail to Nevis, we blasted Fleetwood Mac and American Pie and sang our hearts out. We then anchored and had our first night shower, which was frightening as we were afraid of the deep, dark sea creatures lurking below. Then we found a flying fish that had ended up on our boat, which we admired, and Andrew lassoed the fish back to the ocean. Currently, we are gathered in the salon, debriefing our adventure.

XOXO,
Rina
