Good day from the beautiful BVIs! This morning, Lilah and Hugo made us a lovely breakfast of yogurt, bagels, and fruit. After cleaning up, we traveled to the site where we would be turtle tagging!!
We were given a briefing about the fascinating life cycle, diet, migration patterns, and how to safely grab a Caribbean Sea turtle. We got in the water to look for them. After a while of being slowly towed behind the dinghy and seeing no turtles, we got dragged into a large patch of stinging single-celled organisms and jellyfish. Hugo, Morgan, Alex, and Jackson apparently got the worst of it, so we decided to end our tagging attempts. Sadly, we didn’t even see a turtle.
After lunch, our lovely Dolphins, Lilah, Hugo, and Jackson, conducted an exploratory dissection on squids and sea urchins. The Neptunes, Casey, Ella, Charlotte, Morgan, Alex, and Andre, endured an equipment lecture. Then, we were asked to set up a scuba kit as fast as we could blindfolded.
We then headed to our dive site for the day, where we enjoyed a self-guided dive of a very murky reef. Everything went smoothly except for Hugo getting stung by a fireworm. Luckily, he made a miraculous recovery.
Finally, we traveled to the anchorage for the night and savored a dinner of chili and rice. We had an early night and are so excited for a new day tomorrow!
