Hello, I am Makena, and I am the acting skipper of the day! At first, today was supposed to be a relatively uneventful day of the trip. Well… as soon as we got up this morning, that plan quickly changed. The day became eventful very fast. We started off with a good plan, which was… to sail. The first thing that went wrong was that Makena had the role of skipper today. Yikes ;).That’s when things got exciting. Some people aren’t born to steer a boat, but I was. As time progressed, I quickly got the hang of it and helmed for the majority of the sail. The next task to conquer was kinda awesome. It was time to raise the sail. Ellie and Sophia acted as spotters to ensure the sail was not getting caught on the way up. We had Jack, Owen, and Ben haul and eased the lines for both the main and jib sail. By using their mighty strength, they raised the sail almost to the very top. Though the sail was fighting them and making it very difficult for it to be raised. The four crew mates that were raising the sails called for help. It was now time to use the winch.
Sipora came to their rescue by cranking the winch with her superhuman strength. All the sails were up, and we were cruising at a high of seven knots. After a speedy sail in the sunshine, it was time for lunch. The team got to practice picking up a mooring ball, with Ella and Evie taking the lead. We stopped in a bright blue bay and enjoyed PB and J. When we FINALLY made it to our destination, Savannah Bay, Miles, Robert, and Henry put out both of our anchors for the night. Very elegantly, I might add. We finished off the night with a yummy dinner and a captivating dive lesson.
Love,
Makena M.
