Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
Hello, beautiful families. River is here reporting for skipper duty tonight on Beso Del Viento. As I sit on the hard top of the boat, looking across the glassy waters of Musk-Melon Bay, thinking back on what we did today, I can confidently say that it was one of my favorites so far. We awoke this morning at the bright hour of 7:00 am to our dedicated wake-up so “g, “Turn My Swa” On” by Soulja Boy. My fellow shipmates and I were staff-less this morning when Emma and JT announced that they had to leave for a staff meeting. This, however, did not impact boat’sat’s moral composure or our productivity. Michelle and Leila quickly got started cheffing-up our first pancake breakfast of the trip. It was absolutely phenomenal. I personally ate four and could have eaten more for sure. By the time Emma, JT, and a surprise guest had returned to the boat, it was completely spotless, and we were ready to start sailing. Sienna, one of the staff on Hagen Time (a community service boat) spent the day with us helping teach the intricacies of sailing. Today was a student-based sailing day, meaning that we hippies did all of the actual sailing. Of course, Emma and Sienna told us what to do from time to time, but we did most of the heavy lifting. We rotated through watch teams( I started off on the helm) and switched through different jobs while sailing in intense winds. These intense winds resulted in very big waves, which splashed Alivia while she was trying to read.
My watch team consists of Avery, Arthur, Michelle, and myself. I believe that my watch is the most competent as we got through many tacks and jibes without any problems. Midway through my turn on the helm, Dillan came up and handed me a Dr Pepper, which exploded when I dropped it, walking down the stairs. This prompted an unexpected Deckie before we could resume sailing. During my non-sailing time, I finished my book and enjoyed dancing Grace’s playlist, which she made this morning. Definitely the best music this boat has had all trip. For lunch, we sailed to a serene cove where we had mac and cheese, which happened to be mushy because of a sleepy chef.
After cleanup, we took a much-needed swim in the greenest and possibly clearest way I’ve seen so far. Avery and Kaya took turns doing death dives off the boat while others saw who could create the biggest splash by jumping off the boat. Michelle and I tied for the biggest splash, while Sahil came in 2nd place. After swimming, we sailed to our current location (Muskmelon Bay) and showered as soon as we arrived. During shower time, Grace pushed me into the water without me knowing, which resulted in me pushing Kaya into the water, thinking it was her who pushed me in. Before dinner, we reviewed three sailing knots while listening to good music. For dinner, we ate yummy chili and talked about the different ActionQuest programs. Laurel, recovering from a fever, tried speaking a few times, but her voice was too raspy, which we all found funny. Shortly after dinner, we received our clean laundry, which was a relief even though there were a few missing items. While I writing the blog, the girls decided to take a group photoCarlie’sie’s camera. I think they turned out pretty well. Dillon then passed out on the bow of the ship, signaling that the day was over. Goodnight, families, see you in 9 days!
Love, Avery, and hello from Arthur, Alivia, Dillon, Lelia, Sahil, Grace, Michelle, Kaya, Carlie, Laurel, and River
