Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Three days down and eighteen more to go, and we have already learned a lot and today started with a wonderful breakfast cooked by Dylan and assisted by Bea, which included scrambled eggs and blueberry muffins. Now that the group had a boost of energy, Xander and Dylan took us off the mooring to begin our trip north to Cooper Island. In between, Garrett gave us our first sailing lesson, Points of Sail and Tacking. As avid readers, Sophie and Maggie would also spend this travel time starting a book club on the boat. We then stopped at Cooper Island for lunch and a quick swim in the ocean, where Celeste, joining us for her first full day, took her swim test. Then we set off again. Katie, Charly, and Bea showed some strength in raising the sail after lunch. We began tacking upwind north with Cahan, Aidan, and Kaya, each taking the Helm and sailing us north to Mountain Point on Virgin Gorda. Cahan was the life of the party in the Power Tower while we were sailing, keeping the conversation going and cracking jokes. Maggie then helped us set anchor for the night just in time for an Alfredo dinner and an ocean shower. We finished off our third day with a third SCUBA lesson, preparing everyone for their first dive tomorrow. Keeping busy and having fun made a long day seem to breeze by, and everyone was excited to get some sleep tonight. – Erich L.
