Hey everyone! I’m Ella W, and this is both my second and my (sadly) last blog post I will be writing.
We started off this cloudy day with our usual wake-up song, Bikini Bottom Day, by the SpongeBob musical cast. Most of us have heard it so often that we know the whole seven-minute song word for word. Although we complain about waking up to the same annoying song every morning, no one denies that it is insanely catchy, and we find ourselves singing or humming its tune throughout the day. For breakfast, some French toast was made by Meredith and Ella S, which was an amazing start to the day. While our staff members, Mia, Matty P, and Sela, worked on fixing Shamwari’s steering problem, the rest of us did different things to keep us busy. While the majority of us decided to take advantage of the longer morning to go back to sleep on the upper deck, Meredith wrote in her diary, and Wilkes, Ollie, Josie, Lucy, and I took it upon ourselves to curate the most perfect boat playlist. While there was some dispute on the amount of rap music that was added, the playlist turned out to be the perfect mix of many different genres, which we favor across the boat. This comes with the exception of country music, which, apart from Grayson (who’s from the south), no one else on the boat really enjoys listening to. So, the six New Yorkers on our boat overruled and banned any country music from the playlist. After our staff members fixed Shamwari (which relieved Thompson, who was terrified that we would have to switch boats and move all of our stuff in the process) and returned from their staff meeting, we split up into our sailing watch groups. We completed a four-hour sail almost all by ourselves. This is great practice for when we have to take charge and race against other sailboats these upcoming days. When stopping the sail for lunch consisting of chicken salad wraps, Thompson, Mia, and I secretly made cheese quesadillas to eat instead. The other boat members still don’t know this, and I know they would be upset to know that they missed out, but I’m letting you in on the secret. Following lunch, we had a beach soccer game with Alpenglow, another boat on Sail Side A. Hopie and Lulu decided to go for a swim while Joshua joined them with his snorkel mask. After that, we headed back to the boat on the dinghy and started one of my favorite parts of the day: ocean showers! We all danced to music on the deck and had a back-flipping competition, which our friends on a boat called Odyssey judged. Ella S. discovered how matted her hair had gotten from being in the sea and wind all day, so four of us helped her out by brushing each knot out of her hair. She really appreciated the gesture, and we all had so much fun laughing and talking while we brushed her now silky-smooth hair. Finally, we ended the day with dinner which was franks, rice, beans, and cornbread for dinner.
That’s all for today!
