Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Hello! My name is Orly Troffkin, and I’m from Evansville, Indiana. Today started off with an early wake-up at 6:30 and a breakfast consisting of some delish blueberry muffins. Shortly after, we took a quick 30-minute sail to Road Town or Rhode Town (I’m not sure about the spelling). During the sail, the majority of people hung out on the bow and talked.
At Road/Rhodetown, we docked in a marina and walked to a nearby store, where everybody got snacks. Following this, we went to a tiny cafe and had some lunch. While we were eating, we spotted the other (younger) Minerva boat and went over to talk. We hung out on their boat for a bit but ultimately went back to our boat to chill. But not before Scarlett made a new bestie from the other boat. Before we left the marina, we got our (slightly defective) dingy fixed. Rest assured, Bongo is no longer defective and has been fit with an awesome new motor!
Eventually, we were able to start our next sail to Savannah Bay. During the sail, almost everyone took naps (Celeste took two!). Will attempted to read his book but ended up napping, too. Rina, Roman, and I napped on the beanbags on the bow of the boat until we were woken by water splashing on us. We almost lost a beanbag to the ocean, but it was saved in the last second and put in a timeout (aka a more secure spot). The sail required us to constantly tack the boat, which gave all of us lots of practice. In the last quarter of the sail, Peyton, Scarlett, Sadie, Rina, and I all got to get hands-on sailing practice, which was super fun. During the sail, Peyton received many new names, such as Carly, Jocelyn, Peter, Johannesburg, etc. Fun fact: despite the other Minerva Boat leaving 40 minutes beforehand, we ultimately caught up to them because we’re just that cool.
At Savannah Bay, we spent a long time trying to anchor the boat due to the rocks at the bottom of the bay. But we were able to do it in the end! After anchoring, we took our ocean showers really quickly (since the other Minerva boat kept telling us there were jellyfish, which could’ve been a total lie, tbh). Then we ate a delish dinner of pasta with Alfredo sauce and hotdogs.
Following this, we started cleaning up (and I started typing this). Luckily, our sound system started working again, so we could listen to music! Then, we started preparing for our upcoming night sail, which was super exciting.
That’s all for now so bye!
