Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Day 8: Mega Raft
After a breakfast of bagels and yogurt cooked by our chefs Derek and Paul, we set sail to Great Harbor Peter. Everyone talked and slept for about an hour in the frog pit (with PFDs, of course), followed by us moving inside to finish our underwater digi photographer booklets, which led to people getting temporary tattoos in pen and marker. The pen stained the seat cushions, and we (Paul, Derek, Maya, Rachel, and I) unsuccessfully tried to get off of the seat for a couple of hours until we got to our dive site while Maya and Derek made lunch (deli sandwiches and PBandJ). A staff from Good Times came onto our boat to help Anna and Joe with our photography lecture. After we finished the lecture, we geared up to start the first dive of our digital underwater certifications. Tommy stayed on the boat while the rest of us splashed. After we descended, Mirah and I saw a Lionfish chilling under a rock (Garret didn’t see it, so he refused to believe in its existence). Paul has developed a habit while photographing the reef he flips upside down, so he was just upside down most of the time. Reagan and I both dropped our cameras (we got them back), but otherwise, the dive went really well. When we got back, we all took ocean showers and hung out on the hardtop or in the ocean. Around dinnertime, we motored up to the three other ships in the dive fleet that were already attached. We attached on our starboard side and talked with some people from the other ships in the fleet. After that, we tried to catch a seagull by covering Maya with a towel and holding a tortilla in her mouth. We didn’t catch a seagull. The squeeze from yesterday was skipped, so Rachel (yesterday’s skipper) and I both got a quote and added something to the squeeze (all of which were inspired by Noah’s actions). We just had a lecture about our upcoming research projects, and tomorrow we will be doing the second dive of our underwater digital photography certifications.
