Hola Chicos, my name is George, and I will be narrating the story of Day 11 on the great Oryx aka Sigma Port Jib. We started our adventure just like any other, waking up to some sick beat. This morning it was Fireball. First thing after waking up, I observed Sam and Jacob playing some cards as they usually do. As any good skipper would do, I decided to abuse my power of the camera and take 0.5 close-up photos of everyone on the Sigma Port Jib. After our morning meeting, we began to set sail for the day. Our first destination for the morning was The Seal Dogs. Once arriving, we ate lunch and got in the water. During Deckie duty, I noticed something: ELIN WAS USING THE DECK BROOM ON THE TABLE.
After laughing for a bit, we washed off the table and went on with our day. After cleaning up, we had a lot of fun in the water. To get payback on one of our leaders (Luke) for his actions at the AQ soapy dinghy competition, we all sat on the dinghy floating in the water and pushed him off the sides when he tried to get in. Eventually, we let him get back into the dinghy. When I looked on the other side of our boat, I noticed Bella and Sam having a competition. They both were taking turns treading water while holding a big metal pot over their heads. After a couple of minutes, they stopped to join the rest of the group on the other side of the boat. Eventually, I jumped in the water, and upon getting in the dinghy, Ada almost immediately attempted to push me in the water. I luckily caught my footing and, with one swift push, managed to turn the tables. No longer than a minute later, Ada came back with some backup, and with the help of (Kellan), they managed to push me in the water… is what I would say if I hadn’t ended up pushing them both back into the water. After many laughs and a lot of king of the hill (the dinghy), we all dried off and began to head to our next destination. Some ways into our trip, I overheard that Jacob had to pass the man overboard test. In this test, a fender was thrown over the boat, and Jacob, stationed at the helm, was tasked with retrieving the fender from the ocean.
First time around, the fender was just out of reach, but on only his second attempt, he managed to make a perfect save. After all the action, I decided to head downstairs, where I saw Sam, Grace, Molly, and Maci. To pass the time, we all decided to play a guessing game. In this game, one person would pick an animal in their head, and the rest of the players were tasked with guessing the name of the creature. If you were one of the guessers, you would ask yes or no questions, such as “Is it a carnivore?” or “What color is it?” to try to figure out the identity of the animal. After playing for a solid 20-30 minutes, we decided it would be nice to just relax. Just before dinner, Margot and I decided to take some pictures together in the kitchen to remember the awesome day we had. For dinner, we had pasta with some salad and some of the best garlic bread ever. After every dinner, we all gather around the table and hold hands to squeeze. Squeeze is an after-dinner activity that consists of 1 question, 15 responses, and 15 different gratitudes, one from each member of Sigma Port Jib. Today’s question, chosen by yours truly, was “If you were able to have 5 minutes with God or a higher being, what would you ask them?”. In typical Chloe fashion, she picked one of the most hilarious responses. She said, “If I could ask God one question, it would be how many grains of sand are there?” completely random and yet very funny. Just like every great story, mine must come to an end. By the time I am writing this, the day has already ended, the sun has long been down, and everyone is getting all cozy in their bedtime spots. I’m sitting up on the roof of our amazing boat, rocking in the waves with the sound of wind blowing in my ears, telling you all about today. While my story has to come to an end, the adventure has only just begun. I want to wish you all a good morning, a good afternoon, and a good night. Adios chicos, this is George signing out.
