Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda

First of Many dives

We started the day with a game of Uno consisting of all of the students, followed by a breakfast of scrambled eggs served by JJ and Matthew. After breakfast, we set sail from Peter Island to Ginger Island. When we first set sail, I was at the helm initially. However, many people got a chance at the helm, including Max, Jas, and Ella. We had some initial trouble with raising the anchor. However, we were able to work the issues out. Jas and Eloise sweated the halyard, and it seems no one can remember who raised the anchor. On the way to the island, many of us caught up on our sleep, which most of us barely got any of. Tate managed to sleep upright, sitting criss-cross with some of the best postures I’ve seen.

After sailing to the island all morning, Max and Ella moored us at Ginger Island. Once we reached a state of relative standstill, we had lunch consisting of various different types of sandwiches. The Barracuda students, JJ, Josh, Ben, and myself, when on the first dive of the program, while the Aquarius students got to swim near the boat. During the dive, we performed some basic dive exercises, including flooding and draining our masks in the water, regulator retrieval, and borrowing a regulator. We also spotted a baby sole in the sand at the bottom.

After everyone got out of the water, we set sail for Savanna Bay, which would be our final stop for the day. Pablo and Diego sweated the halyard. Not very long after we set sail, we got hit by a fairly heavy but short burst of rain alongside lots of wind, which lasted the whole way. Pablo lowered the anchor once we reached the bay. Once we were anchored and the boat had stopped, we showered. Showering for us on the boat meant taking a dip into the ocean, lathering yourself in whatever shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. you have, jumping in again, then finally rinsing in fresh water. After everyone got dry, we had a lovely breakfast of Alfredo pasta. While dishes were being washed, somehow, the saltwater bucket found its way overboard, and Diego went into the water to go fetch it. Now here we are, at the end of the day, looking forward to another lovely day 1.
