Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay

Hey squad!!! It’s Maya again. Today was a super fun day, and even though we were all super duper tired from the hike yesterday, there were a lot of activities on the agenda. The staff went to a meeting this morning right after we woke up, and, despite what we actually wanted to do, we made French toast and cleaned it up while listening to the BVI radio (not our usual playlist). After breakfast, we all split into our research groups and headed over to the playgrounds in a dinghy. Garrett, Noah, and I all had some trouble collecting data because we were being ATTACKED by some fire coral- and yes, we all still have the battle scars but were okay now. We also saw a giant lobster and a black-tip reef shark!

After the dive, everybody came back to the boat for some yummy lunch and chicken wraps. Once we were all fueled up again and ready for our second dive, Joe decided to whip out this big white bucket and had us do a dogfish dissection! It was very stinky, and with our bellies, fwasn’tsn’t the most enjoyable experience, but we all had a lot of fun and learned a lot. Then, Regan, Paul, Tessa, Anya, Derek, Rachel, and Logan all went out again to go on a fun dive/additional research dive. While Mirah, Garrett, Noah, Emmy, and I all waited for them to return back on the boat. Once they did, we all ventured out to Sandy Spit Beach, a tiny little sand bar near our boats. The whole fleet was there, which was nice because we got to catch up with our friends from the other boats. When we got back, everybody took ocean showers and rested up while drying off. We just finished our final 100-question oceanography and fish ID exam, so wish us good luck! Now, we’re about to enjoy some hot dogs with some beans and rice while we soak up the last of our days together. This is the lasyou’ll you’ll be hearing from me (not fordon’t don’t worry), so I just wanted to say this is the best experI’vee I’ve had in my life so far, and I can’t wait to see how far everybody goes. Also, hey, mom and Dad, I miss you <3
