Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Hello, families and friends! For the last time this trip, it’s Leila writing to you all. Today was a very slow yet relaxing one. This morning, I woke up on a counter inside after my really funny and failed attempt to sleep outside with Carlie and Michelle on the hardtop for the first time. I was woken up with news that our boat, Beso del Viento, would be holding a meeting with Skippers across all boats to discuss how our practice sailing race before the actual big day would go. We raced from our morning destination, Sandy Spit, to West End, where we began our ActionQuest adventure and met all of our fellow shippies. As a Skipper, I was on the helm which means I steered the boat and often switched off with Grace. I also made the decision to assign roles to everyone during our race, and I think that we all did a great job, especially Alivia, on the main sheets! Although we were fourth most windward, big Beso was the chubbiest boat of the bunch and awarded us second to last place. We’re still winners in our hearts. When we docked at West End, the girls of Beso and I ate lunch, shopped at one of the island’s stores that are not fans of ActionQuest, and only let two of us in at a time. However, while we had time on land, Grace, Alivia, and I made sure to get iced coffees, and even though mine was served watered down, I was still very happy! Other shippies and I have noticed that we are happiest sailing on the water rather than walking on land, so we were thrilled to return to Beso after a long morning away. From West End, staff sailed us to our current spot of Great Harbour Peter. During this longer journey, River, Sahil, Grace, and Dillon taught me a card game that they learned from Arthur named “The Big 2” since 2 is the most powerful in the deck. It’s a very fun game, but not nearly as exciting as the one Michelle and I taught the group called “Egyptian Rat Slap.”
Kaya, Avery, Laurel, and Carlie swam in the water while wearing calming face masks, which was a funny sight to see. Michelle and Dillon had to get started on breakfast for dinner after we showered and I tried to help them because the meal seemed like a difficult one to make for 15 people. By helping, I mean that I poured baked beans into a pot, made honey butter for biscuits, and talked their ears off. Dinner turned out delicious, and I asked the group the daily Skipper question, which was “If you could have a superpower, what would it be?” and “Defend why that superpower is the one you chose”. I said that I would manipulate time since time controls everything around us, and it was super cool to hear everyone’s thoughts about the ones they chose. Now, I’m chatting with Avery, Margaret, Carlie, and Michelle before bed and thinking about how sad I am about saying goodbye to my friends soon. Today was so much fun, and I’m looking forward to scuba diving in the next couple of days!!!!!! 😀
Love,
Leila, Grace, Michelle, Alivia, River, Carlie, Laurel, Arthur, Sahil, Kaya, Avery, and Dillon
