Day 4
Today was our first rotation day. Yay! We had to wake up at 6:30… Despite the fact we had a great breakfast of oatmeal still in the packets, we didn’t have to wash up any bowls to keep up with our 7:30 deadline on the dive boat. After breakfast, I got kidnapped by my dad to get a tour of Vela, which had anchored just next to us. After that tangent I rejoined the group and got packed up into the dinghy with the gear. The dive boat work started as soon as we stepped on board. Jake, Sally, Anzie, and I handled laying out the fins in their different sizes (which we apparently didn’t make look nice, so we had to remake it). First round of kids were mostly advanced students which made our jobs easy, plus the lack of scuba tanks made it so we couldn’t even dive first round so it was more dry demonstrations for us. Claire and Daisy seemed to have much joy giving the open waters “an extra push” during their giant stride, but I think they just enjoyed the idea of pushing them into the water; to be fair, it was effective, and no tanks slammed against the deck. Josh got well acquainted with Aden, the operator of the sail side scuba tank boat Under Pressure, during his many trips back and forth between the dive boat and Under Pressure due to the constant need to refill the scuba tanks we had available. I saw Sedona, Lizzie, and Player helping out, as well as helping one of the open water students and holding up their tank while they made their way to the front of the boat after their dive. Everyone got the chance to jump in the water and assist an instructor. Towards the end of the rotations, Josh, David, and I made a final tank run to Under Pressure carrying a lot in our dinghy; before you think that a bad idea to fill a small boat with heavy objects…just don’t because it totally worked out with no problems and no issues like full speed being extremely slow… Well, while we were over at Under Pressure, we offered for Aiden to eat dinner with us on Graytful, which worked out, seeing as he is sitting in front of me while writing this. Overall the day was pretty good, a little tiring, but pretty good. For dinner, we absolutely destroyed some rice and chili and listened to Abba during clean up as a semi-song along, which leads me to when I am sitting at the nav table writing this while listening to Our Last Summer by Abba. Please forgive me for the possible lack of photos, completely forgot to bring the camera to the dive boat and wouldn’t have time to take pictures if I did.
