Location: Road Harbor, Tortola
Hello, parents of Good Times! Day 13 has been a surprisingly calm and relaxing day… save for the rough seas we encountered on our way to dock at the capital of the BVIs, Road Town! We started our day off bright and early at 6:30 AM. After taking some time to set up our kit for our early morning dive and eating a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, we splashed into the water for our second dive at The Playgrounds, at which Morgan, Jackson, and Hugo spotted not one but three huge red-and-white Lionfish hiding in a nook under a rock, and where Kyler led us through a small underwater valley filled from top to bottom with (rather painfully stinging) orange fire coral.
After our dive, we packed up and sailed to where we started this whole thing: West End, Tortola, where we had several hours of shore time for students to kick back, go shopping, and have lunch. At 2 O’clock in the afternoon, we returned to our boats only to be recalled back to shore for an announcement by our director, Mike, who told us we’d, unfortunately, need to hole up in our boats at Road Town because of an incoming storm from the Atlantic, meaning that our dive today at The Playgrounds would, unfortunately, be our last for the trip (well, at least it was a fun one!)
After a trip full of rough waves (and surprisingly, plenty of fun!) where a group consisting of Jackson, Morgan, Casey, Hugo, Lilah, Alex, Ella, and Charlotte sat in the frockpit (a small seating area just behind the bow, portmanteau of front and cockpit) of the boat and got splashed by huge wave after huge wave while Maren and I stayed nice and comfy inside the salon, but after we listened to a copious amount of British rap and had our fun, Casey and Ella (rather stressfully) cooked up a delicious Mexican (Mexican-American moreso)-style dinner and some brownies for us to enjoy, and despite the few misunderstanding with the instructions of the taco beef, it all turned out fine.
Currently, we are holed up in Moorings Yacht Club in Road Town, where we most likely will stay due to the storm until the day when we go home.
