Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
We all woke up today around 7 AM. We put our sleeping items away so we could move our boat to a different spot. While underway, Riley and Ana boiled some water for oatmeal. After we all finished eating breakfast, we got changed and ready to go to the raft. Odyssey and Marylee were the boats in the raft. At the raft, we switched between paddle boarding, Zesting, water sports, and just talking to each other and other boats. Sophie and Ana went Zesting; Zoƫ, Shane, and I did water sports, and Asa, Lily, Myles, Riley, Julian, Alta, and Carlo played cards and chatted.
At 12:15 PM, we went back to our boat and ate a delicious lunch of breakfast sandwiches, PB+J, and banana bread. As soon as we finished lunch, we set up our dive gear to do our deep dive, which is the last dive for the advanced certification. 13 and 14-year-olds went around 70 feet, and the 15-year-olds went around 90 feet. When descended, the groups looked at how pressure and color change work at the depths. The 13-14-year-olds saw the color change in a Coke can. The Coke can look grey because red is the first color to be affected by the lack of light in the depths of the ocean. After we looked at the Coke, we drank it underwater. The 15-year-olds saw this same experiment with Skittles. The red packaging turned brownish-grey. After they looked at the loss of color, they ate the Skittles. Both groups cracked eggs underwater, and the yolk remained as a bubble due to the pressure. We moved the eggs around the divers so everyone could feel them. These were two really cool experiments.
Once we ascended, we took ocean showers in the rain. This was really nice because the water was so warm. Shortly after everyone was showered, we motored to a dock on Tortola to get more fuel and water. Underway, the beginner sailers had a sail chat. We learned about the different points of sails, the levels of PFDs, the levels of fire extinguishers, ride, and scope when anchoring, bilges and bilge pumps, ridged inflatable boats, and what to do if a man goes overboard. After we left the dock, we anchored close by, and Riley and Ana prepared Thai Red Curry, which was delicious. After the squeeze, the advanced sailors had a sail chat. We talked for a bit when their sail chat finished before getting ready for bed.
