Location: Antigua to Nevis
Today, I woke up everyone with a local radio station that, for some reason, was playing “Happy Birthday.” Rina and Evan were then on cooking duty and grabbed our cereal so we could fuel up for the long ride ahead of us. We sat at the table and got ourselves pumped for the sail. We then started preparing for our journey. We left around 9 am, and everyone helped get the sails up before splitting into watch teams. Celeste and I were on the first shift. Celeste helmed the whole time while Scarlet did the boat checks, and I got the jib out. The next watch was Evan, Peyton, and Orly. They had the first tack on our way to Antigua from Nevis.
Then Sadie, Will, Andrew, and Rina took the next watch, and we kinda just did a switcharoo while the chefs made us ramen. We continued to sail before a dinner of chili and rice. We then had like 8 or 9 hours before we arrived to Antigua so watch team 1 which was me Scarlett, and Celeste were on duty 6 to 9 with one of our skippers Ben. We went through a lot of squalls (little storms) with high winds and a lot of rain. Scarlet helmed, and then I switched with her. Eventually we saw the light of Antigua and knew the journey was nearly complete. After that, we then let watch team 2 take over, and before you knew it, we were there in Antigua, anchored off Galleon Beach.
Thank you. Have fun.

[Message from Staff members Ben and Claire: Just want to say how awesome every student on Different Drummer has been on this past passage. Not a single sea-sick person, everyone working together and using the skills they’ve been learning so far this trip. I’ve seen students after 90-day trips be less competent on the helm than your kids, so big respect to them]
