Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda

This morning was kicked off strong with the sound of upbeat music around 7:30 am. We slept 30 – 40 minutes later than we usually do due to the counselors graciously letting us! Our chef was Hayes, and the sous chef was Reed. They worked hard to whip up some very delicious pancakes, which everyone enjoyed. After breakfast and dishes, we headed into town so we could dock and resupply our fresh water. When we got our water, we set out and started sail training/practicing for the next couple of hours. The first group that did training was Violet, Graham, Antonio, and Hayes. They went up to the deck, where Margaret and Tony demonstrated how to control the sail and how to ease, tie, and handle the lines. We all got a chance to helm as well. After the first group, the next two groups followed. Group 2 was Alex, Delfina, Lawson, and Liam. Group 3 was Devyn, Reed, Tomas, and me. It ended up being a very chill morning because when your group wasn’t sailing, you were able to read, nap, tan, etc. Eventually, we docked for lunch and ate sandwiches, which Hayes and Reed prepared again. Around 2:00, we started to get ready for BOAT OLYMPICS! Margaret let us borrow some of her colored zinc, which is body & face paint with SPF. We all drew and put on team spirit, going into the Olympics very confidently. Eventually, after we were all ready and zinc’d up, we met on the deck to play a quick hydrating game and do a few team cheers before hopping on the dingy and heading to Savannah Bay (where the Olympics were being hosted.) We competed in 3 challenges in total. We started with a tug of war, which we unfortunately lost, yet put up a good fight for! We then did a relay race where we climbed in the sand, did seven spins around a fender, tried to get past the counselors in the water, and swam back. We were all very supportive and loud, then ended up coming in fourth! Delfina fell when she was running in the sand, it was very funny. Violet got past the counselors very quickly, and so did Graham. Our last challenge was a paddle board balance game, and our two contestants were Antonio and Reed!! Antonio unfortunately lost but put up a very good fight for. Reed, on the other hand, was able to beat a 17-year-old boy in a couple of seconds! Everyone crowded reed and cheered. Our boat did not place top 3, but we still had lots of fun. When we got back to our boat, we all showered and swam for a little bit before starting to make dinner, which was Mexican night! Very delicious. After dinner, we saw some big barracudas around our boat, which we actually hadn’t seen many of yet. We had a great day, and we are even planning to do a prank tonight – hopefully, it works! 🙂
