The Beginning
Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
I woke up around 6:30ish to the sound of screaming roosters and waves gently colliding with the boat. I was in a suspended hammock on the top deck near Antonio, Reed, and Liam. Thirty minutes later, I had collected my thoughts and hopped off the hammock for breakfast. We had a variety of cereals, such as Frosted Flakes, Cheerios, and Frosted Mini-Wheats. All the campers then headed to shore to have an hour-long discussion about safety with Mike, the director. He educated us on the importance of wearing our life jackets and putting on sunscreen. It’s also crucial to stay hydrated. Around 10:00 AM we undocked and embarked on our long journey to our scuba diving location.
Liam and I took turns driving the boat with Margaret while Reed crashed out on the top deck cushions. We stopped at White Bay, where we took our swimming test. It was four laps around the boat and 10 minutes of treading; nobody failed. We then had lunch and ate PB&J sandwiches. We started moving again and learned how to tie Bowlen and Irish Pinch knots. (I don’t think I spelled that right.) Later, we had an awesome dance party where Tony played songs like “Wobble” and “The Nae Nae.” At 4:30 PM, we arrived at our destination, Mountain Point. Here, we swam around and took showers in the salt water. Tony showed us how to death dive. Lawson, Tomas, Hayes, and a couple of others attempted it. Alex, Delfina, Daisy, Devyn, and Violet all dived off the side. Tony then taught us about scuba diving. After, we had sloppy joes for dinner and did Squeeze. During the Squeeze, we played hide and seek, where Antonio was hidden on the end of the boat and Malaku hung off the side of the boat. Everybody went off to do their jobs, and I’m currently writing this. After this, we’re making brownies.
P.S. Margaret forced me out of my will to say she is “the best staff ever” and totally awesome.”
