Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola

Hello all :). Technically, this is the morning of the 22nd. We had a very busy day yesterday, so I was unable to write the blog. To begin, we started our day with a brisk 6:00 AM wake-up. We got ready for our hike, had a quick breakfast, got dressed, and played a hydration game where Thunderstruck played in the background, and you had to drink water in between every time they say “thunder” in the song, so that was a lot of fun. We got our phones and money and went to the dock. Then we all set off. All of the sailside boats got to go first, so they were the first ones to reach the top. Everyone says the most difficult part of the ascent of the hike is the beginning, simply because of how steep it is. I personally believe it is the middle that is the most difficult because you have expended all of your fresh energy on the first stretch in order to get through it, while under the impression that the first part is the steepest. And since the beginning goes by so seemingly slowly, people assume the rest is easy. The best part is obviously the smoothies, though. There is a small shop at the top of the mountain, and every year, the kind man who owns it whips up hundreds of banana smoothies for all of us campers and staff with other cold drinks and a little boutique. In my opinion, that man deserves every penny. And after smoothies is the descent, honestly, my least favorite part. Everyone HATES the descent simply because of how steep it is. After the hike is over, we get to shop at Cane Garden Bay. There was a nice T-shirt shop, a snack shop, and a restaurant. It was a very small area, but quaint. After shopping for a few hours, at about 1:30, we all went back to our boats. Everyone bought a ridiculous amount of food. Dasha bought a big box of 46 mini taki bags (Takis are a type of spicy chip for those who don’t know). We then took off to meet up at a new anchorage for Sydney’s barbecue. We arrived with no problems and got ready for the barbecue. Everyone loves Sydney’s barbecue because of all the shirt shops and funny things you can find inside. Last year, all members of staff, men and women, bought T-shirts that are white with the image of a slim woman wearing a bikini on them, and they all wore them together at another barbecue. Sydney’s T-shirt shops also offer braiding services, and a lot of people like to get their braids done there. The food was also pretty good. The DJ was really bad, but it was a really fun barbecue. Everyone came back to the boats absolutely blown from our day. We all went to bed relatively quickly after talking and playing cards. Overall, it was a very eventful day, one to remember for sure. Only a few days left of camp, and we’ll be sure to savor every second of this wonderful opportunity we have been presented with grace and gratitude :). Goodbye!
