Location: Anegada
– Today started with a five thirty wake up to Max shaking us at the legs. We barely got up, but we gave him hugs and said goodbye. Then Max started his journey home. An hour later, Claire, Thomas, Matthew, and Kellen were woken up to put on their PFD’s. Then they were able to enjoy some PFD sleep. While Drew, Meredith, Evan, Stella, Hays, and I slept inside. Three people slept down below and the rest slept in the salon area. Then Allie, Beth, and Aidan sailed us to Anegada. We went a top speed of 10.6 knots! It took us an hour and a half to get there and we arrived around eight (we all got an extra hour of sleep). Most of us woke up upon arrival, with the exception of Claire who got an extra thirty minutes of sleep.
– Our chefs, Stella and Matthew made everyone french toast and we had a side of bananas. We finally pulled out the Nutella and also had the option to put maple syrup on it. After clean up we prepared for the beach Olympics. This included Drew writing “Shamu” across our faces in eyeliner and Meredith writing “Shamwari” on our knuckles.
– We had to make two dingy trips to the beach. Then the chanting (and a bit of taunting) started. We huddled in a circle and were guided by Aidan in a pep talk. Aidan was also our film crew for the beach olympics. The first event was pushing another person off a paddle board using a pool noodle (one of the same events as yesterday). Evan crushed it again and won the whole event for Shamwari. There was a lot of controversy over who won each round, which resulted in several remaches. Then I did the fender rodeo and struggled to balance on it. Next we had to dig a hole under a paddle so that Meredith, Stella, Matthew, Kellen, and Drew could army crawl under it, swim to a soapy dingy, climb on, and then run back to the beach to tag the next person. During this event we all got sand thrown at us by Beso who was next to us. While Matthew was on the dingy he fell, yet he was focused and ran to the beach. Although when he looked down he saw a gash on his knee. He had to return to the boat and now Shamwari was down another person. After a slight delay, we competed in tug of war. Our strategy was to have an anchor at the back (Aidan) and another strong person at the front (Kellen). Yet even with this strategy, we didn’t win this event.
– We didn’t end up finishing all of the beach Olympic Games and played in the water instead. Kellen and Thomas had a wrestling battle, while Evan stacked Meredith and Lyla on her shoulders. When we returned to the boat we ate sandwiches and then we were on our way back to Mountain Point. Hays and Stella sweat, Evan pulled on the halyard, and I eased the main sheet. Then, Thomas let out the jib. Some of us sailed the boat and others took naps.
– When we arrived to Mountain Point, we took boat showers, and our chefs cooked a Mexican dinner. Stella gave everyone Henna and we all laughed about comparisons between boat members and characters in TV shows or movies. We watched one more PADI video and took a quiz. Now we are all reflecting on our day about to go to bed.
