Every year, ActionQuest is able to offer a select number of students partial tuition scholarships. Please read carefully the information found here and on the Scholarship Application Form for details.
Eligibility: Eligibility is based on a number of factors including financial need, past academic performance, community involvement, and promise of success on the program. ActionQuest reserves the right to allocate financial awards based on both economic factors and/or program priorities/concerns. The financial aid budget is determined by the ActionQuest Directors and is allocated from the organization's operating budget. As students come from all over the world, flight and travel costs are not included at any scholarship level, nor spending money and other additional costs associated with traveling abroad (vaccinations, doctor visits, visas, etc.).
Application process: Students may apply to ActionQuest as a regular enrollment or as a scholarship student, but can not apply as both. To be considered for a scholarship, please submit to our office the Scholarship Application Form (below). **Do not submit the standard online enrollment form or the deposit.**
Timeline: We accept scholarship applications on a rolling basis and will endeavor to respond within 30 days to each individual application. Upon receiving a completed scholarship application, ActionQuest will offer the following choices to the applicant:
Option 1 (Accept) - The applicant accepts the scholarship award as offered. The applicant must then proceed to submit the official enrollment application within 10 days along with the $750-$1500 deposit needed to confirm and reserve the space. The applicant will be given a unique scholarship code to be used during the enrollment application to confirm the scholarship award.
Option 2 (Deny & Review) - The applicant denies the scholarship award as offered and chooses to wait for another review. The application will be placed on hold until AQ re-reviews the application, usually 30, 60 or 90 days from initial submission. It should be noted that previous scholarship offers may not be available at the time of re-review. Available scholarship offers may increase or decrease dependent upon current enrollment, remaining scholarship funding, etc.
Frequently Asked Questions:
How much financial aid will I receive? - While the scholarship application offers choices ranging from 10% all the way to 60%, there is a greater likelihood of gaining the funding you need with a more modest request. We receive a steady flow of scholarship applications and our goal is to assist as many students as possible. Our average accepted scholarship award is 25%.
What happens if there is no funding for my first trip choice? - This is the reason we ask you to choose your top three programs, along with a trip selection essay. We will do our best to match our financial aid offer to the trips you request, however if those trips do not have any funding available, we will often let you know of another trip that does have funding.
When will I find out if I will receive a financial aid offer? - Starting in January, we hold a monthly financial aid meeting to review our current scholarship applicants as well as our current enrollment environment. Due to our having only one meeting per month, you can expect to hear back from us within 30 days of submitting a scholarship application.
Are there any other forms of funding I can use to help financially support my trip? - If we are unable to offer you the amount of financial assistance you need, there are other ways to reach your goal. Students in the past have found success by starting a Kickstarter/GoFundMe page or found independent scholarships through their schools or local youth clubs. Get creative!
