Cheeseburgers in Paradise
Location: Sidney’s, Jost van Dyke
Today was packed with activities. It started with a long hike up Mt. Sage with the whole program. Luckily we had a long time to complete it because it was straight uphill the whole way. Once we got to the top though we could take pictures of our accomplishment and the beautiful view, and drink refreshing smoothies while shopping for souvenirs. Eventually we all had to make the walk back down, but fortunately it was mostly downhill. When we arrived at the bottom we headed for the restaurants to have a cheeseburger in paradise. Everyone was able to make calls home and update their parents. Soon it was time to head to another nearby island for a sand castle competition between all of the boats. Our boat made an awesome sea turtle that was elaborately decorated with materials found around the island. Our turtle came in second! We sadly had to leave our turtle and the beautiful island behind though to head to an exciting night at Sidney’s Peace and Love for a BBQ. The night ended a little later than usual, and we all headed back to our boats for a great night of sleep.

Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
We woke up and had breakfast while we were moving towards the place where we had to dive. We were the first group to dive, since it was our last open water dive before our certificate it was really fun. It was a rotation day so after diving we went to waterskiing and wakeboarding. After that we came back to our boat in order to have lunch. We went to Picos next. It was our last rotation. The weather is really good. It’s been sunny all day but there wasn’t really much wind for the Picos. We sailed to Cane Garden Bay where we are sleeping tonight. It was a fun day. I hasn’t rained and everything has been good.

Location: Sommer’s Beach, Tortola
Today we went to Sommer’s Beach and had an exciting day. We first got up early and went diving. One group of divers saw a shark and a Lionfish. The Lionfish are an invasive species. Then we all went waterskiing and Sam was holding on in this crazy position. After waterskiing we all made bracelets. The bracelets were difficult to make and everyone was yelling for help. After we all finished up we went to a beach BBQ. It was fun with good food. The day was also especially hot so we all worked on our tans. It’s hard to believe it’s already been about two weeks! We’re all excited to get our scuba certifications. We all can’t wait for what’s to come in the next adventure.

Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
Day 12 began with a nice bowl of cereal followed by some engine belt malfunctions. After a speedy recovery we were off and on our way to Great Dog Island. Since Wicked Good is the dive boat, we were the first moored on the island and set up all of the diving gear on our deck. We got to dive first and saw an absolutely beautiful coral reef, an eel, some pufferfish, and tons of fish of all different colors, patterns, shapes, and sizes. It was amazing! After diving we relaxed on the boat while waiting for all of the other ActionQuest boats that had to dive to go. At around 3pm, after jumping in the water for a swim, we started sailing over to Muskmelon Bay. The water was a bit rough and there was plenty of wind and a cloudy sky. We arrived at Muskmelon Bay, anchored, and then jumped into the sea water to take our showers. After a very fun shower time and re-stocking our fridge with fresh fruit and vegetables, we had a great dinner of chilli and rice accompanied by a gorgeous sunset! We ended our day with an informative sail chat from our skipper, Jack. I can’t wait to see what amazing sea life we’ll see on tomorrow’s dive. It amazes me how beautiful underwater life is and how diving puts us all one step closer to understanding it’s beauty! We’ll see what great things Day 13 has in store for us!

A Day On The Sea
Location: Marina Cay
We woke up at 7:30am and we had cereal. Then we took off to Trellis Bay and on the way we did sailing drills. We did numerous tacks and jibes until the ActionQuest flag wrapped around the metal line- it took about half an hour. Then we had some time to waste so we sailed around the island looking for a good mooring ball. Then we ran into a storm so we turned around and got out of the storm and anchored. Then the chefs made ramen noodle soup. Then we went to Trellis Bay where everyone got to charge their phone, ipods, etc. Then everyone from Wicked Good got onto Mary Jewell and came to Marina Cay, where our boat was getting water. Then on our tight schedule we rushed through supper and cleaning so we could make it to land in time to listen to the tape with everyone else from ActionQuest. It was a heart touching tape that showed you the true values in life.
