BVI: Session 3 - Caribbean Soul

Today we filled up the water tanks with water. We had to parallel park our 50 foot boat in a 60 foot space. Then we went diving at the Chimney’s, where we saw a stingray and a lot of other cool things. We then made our way to Marina Cay, where we had to maneuver around a lot of boats while trying to anchor. We had good weather today and didn’t get poured on. We made brownies with cookies inside of them. While diving we saw two nurse sharks.

As soon as I woke up it all came back to me- we had an epic party. After we woke up and ate our breakfast the Vegas, including myself, went snorkeling at the mangrove bank. It was so much fun! We saw sooo much life! While I was doing that the Carinas were doing a dive that I have to say I was sad I was not able to go with them for. But after that our boat came together for waterskiing and windsurfing, after that was the moment of truth for me. I had to raise the anchor and get onto a mooring and with good communication I got it on the first try! Now I’m just sitting here trying to tell you how today was. The best part is that it is not over yet, there are still 9 days left!!

Time To Party!
Today we got up so early as always. Right now we are rafted together with two other boats. We have been here at Vixen Point since last night. We started off the day with practicing navigation on the beach. Then we played some games. Then we did team building! As a team we had lots of different challenges. And the trust falls were scary! Then we went out sailing on the mini sailboats. Once we got back we had fun on the beach and swimming. All in all it was an awesome day! Now don’t worry I am having a blast with all the people on this boat but I miss you all back home a lot! Love you guys, and yes I miss you too mom! Tonight we’re going on shore for a beach BBQ/party! Wooot! I can’t wait! Plus I’m really hungry. Ok, I only got one last thing to say… living on a boat is hard… Trust me, and I miss home a lot, but all the people I’ve met so far have been so friendly and amazing! It’s only day 7 and I already feel so close to all of them! I know I’ll never forget this! It really has been a trip of a lifetime so thank you to everyone!! I love you all!

Wind And A Whole Lot Of Learning
Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Today we woke up at seven to a good amount of wind. When all the sleepyheads got out of bed we had cereal for breakfast. Soon after eating and doing the dishes we split into two groups. Vegas did a scuba lecture followed by a sailing one while Carinas did sailing all morning. For lunch we had tortilla soup with crackers. After lunch we did dishes and prepared for the sea. We pulled off our mooring ball and headed out into the wind. The sail was fun and very interesting due to the waves. As we pulled in we still had our mainsail up. We had decided that we would sail directly to the mooring ball. Ted and I (the skipper of the day) got all hands on deck and gave everyone a job to do. We dropped our main right as we got to the ball, and the watch on the bow got the ball. Once on the ball we prepared to attach to all the other boats. We got off the ball and powered backwards to attach to all the other boats. We dropped anchor in front, tied to the land in the back, and tied to the other boats. Once we settled in we began to cook dinner, which was Mexican night. Now we are about to begin the evening activity, which is more dive chats.

Today we had pretty rough conditions accompanied by some rain, however everyone had a lot of fun riding the bow with the swells. Today we went from Peter Island to Marina Cay. The trip took several hours. But as I said above it was quite fun. We were only under sail for a little while due to the conditions. Upon arrival at the port we went into the town and were able to get a meal that we did not have to cook ourselves or do the dishes for afterwards. We then went back to our boat and had our first sail chat, where we started to learn the technical information for our sailing certs. Afterwards we had a dinner of chilli and rice. It was pretty nice. The rest of my boatmates are currently cleaning up from dinner and we’re having our scuba chat shortly.
