Big Day!

Location: Little Harbour, Jost Van Dyke
Author: Madi Z.
We started off our day early this morning. After a quick breakfast everyone scrambled around the boat looking for shoes, water bottles, sunscreen, etc. for our hike up Mount Sage. I can officially tell you walking up a steep hill is quite tiring. At the top was a very beautiful view of the island and surrounding ocean, with bright patches of turquoise of shallow waters against the deep blue of the deeper water. Once we got to the bottom, most people went to the market for yummy treats you don’t get on the boat. Then we had an awh-mazing lunch at a burger place where I had the best mahi mahi burger ever! In our little groups of friends some of us went to chill at the beach in the incredibly warm water. Some wondered around into tourists shops. Once our dinghies took us back to our luscious vessels we headed over to Sandy Cay where we had a sand sculpture competition. It was so much fun! Fritz’s head was in our sandy shark. Now we are in a cove about to go to another BBQ party. Tonight is going to be exciting with everyone in a good mood from fresh water showers even though we’re all sore and tired from the hike.

Shark Point and Pinnacles Dive

Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
Author: Caleigh S.
Today we slept in (we woke up at 7:30) and started sailing to our first dive destination, Shark Point. The dive was really cool and there were many fish. Everyone enjoyed the swim through. We then went on a relaxing sail while listening to Ben fantasize about climbing the rocks. We got to the Pinnacles and we got to do an optional fun dive. Only a few of us went. We saw so many cool fish and an eagle ray. It was definitely one of my favorite dives so far. After we sailed to Tortola and had a wonderful dinner our chefs made (Thai peanut chicken). We saw a turtle right next to our boat that was awesome! Ben pointed it out. In the past hour we’ve seen 4 turtles. Everyone is currently making turks head bracelets. We are all fairly excited about the hike tomorrow and really sad we leave in 6 days.

Chill Out Day

Location: Somer’s Beach, Tortola
Author: Vladimir P.
We got to sleep in. Then we had breakfast, it was scrambled eggs. We then went wakeboarding and kneeboarding and Ben drove. It was really fun. Most of us went wakeboarding for the first time. Then kids from Grand Cru and Odyssea came over and we motored over to Somer’s Beach. We snorkeled from our boat over to the beach. We played in the sand and in the water. It was great. Then we snorkeled back to the boat. Once back on the boat we snorkeled and relaxed for a while. Then we headed to the BBQ on Zodiac. At the BBQ we ate hamburgers and hot dogs and drank Action Punch. We then hung out and talked to our friends. We returned to the boat and took Hibicleanse showers. We chilled out for a bit and went to bed.

Chickuzin Craze!

Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
Author: Annie M.
This morning we woke up and started off the day with a delicious meal of oatmeal and eggs. After breakfast the staff headed off to a meeting. We did a great clean up and had a little free time to organize and play games. When the staff came back five Odyssea shipmates joined us and we ventured out to the Chickuzin wreck, a Chinese refrigerator ship. It was a bumpy ride but it was well worth it. On the ride down we saw schools of flying fish. We got to the Chickuzin, jumped in as soon as we could and descended. We saw massive schools of beautiful fish along with four eagle rays and many barracuda. After the three minute stop it was time to get out. Getting out of the water was the tricky part. We had to work around the massive swells and eventually we all got our safely. We put away our dive gear and headed to Muskmelon Bay, where we snorkeled our night dive site. After planning our navigation techniques for the dive our fresh, clean laundry was returned to us. We were all overjoyed to have our laundry back! After putting away our laundry we sat down for a dinner of Asian Teriyaki noodles and waited til the sun set so we could plug in for a third night dive that would guarantee our certification!

Fritz S. – 2011-07-17

Location: Marina Cay
Author: Fritz S.
Today was action packed. First we went to Ginger Island and dove a fantastic dive named Mario’s where dive groups saw baby turtles and glimpses of sting rays. After the dive we had a long fast sail to Marina Cay where we filled up on fresh water. We were then released to port to have a great group lunch on shore. We finished our day with an incredible Lifeworks forum on shore.
