Location: South Bay, Peter Island

Today’s the first real day of ActionQuest, starting with an early morning in a spider web of hammocks, a start-of-the-session talk with Mr. Quest, and a group photo for the books. Last night, though technically not my day to record, I almost tossed all our forks overboard- a detail I am less than proud of but thought entertaining. We set sail to South Bay, Peter Island, where we napped on the hardtop and jumped up with the waves. I got a photo of a 360 rainbow, and Byron comes bearing gifts: 2 whole jars of Nutella! After the grueling swim test, we set up dive gear for the first (refresher) dive, where we practiced skills like flooding our masks and using alternate air sources- I accidentally handed Simon the regulator upside down, so it’s my fault if he swallowed salt water. Even with several leaking regulators, now all fixed, both groups had time to explore the reef below. This leads me to the most exciting part of the day, updating dive logs and going to the Reef Fish identification books- a trait Byron and I picked up from last year’s Dolphin adventure. Social hour (shower time) featured flips off deck and a developing music playlist and was followed by dinner of Sloppy Joe’s. Cici is off on a rescue dive as we speak, fishing for pieces of the coffee maker (?) that was tossed overboard by Katie, an update, the rescue was a success. Tonight’s squeeze revealed that there are three of us who love pineapple pizza and that there are many who vote against us. We’re washing up now and will finish the night with a scuba quiz/chaos party. Tomorrow, Chromis Bay!
