Location: Wells Bay, Saba
We started the day very early at a whopping 1:00 am. This is because we had an overnight sail. For the overnight sail, we got split into two groups of 3 and one group of 4. We were well equipped for the occasion with a safety clip mechanism, ensuring our safety while walking on deck. Our “sail of a lifetime” started yesterday at 5:00 pm with Evan, Ellery, Tati, and Juni. They sailed until 9:00 pm, where Drake, ImIm, and Mia took over the helm. After a while, Team 2 got too tired to keep going, so my team, Jackson, Walker, and I started early for our shift. After this point things took a turn for the worst, and walker got sea sick, and was unable to take a shift leaving Jackson and I to drive for 1 hour and 45 minutes, instead of the usual 1 hour. Overall, the sail was very eventful and full of surprises, like the moon being full and being able to see a ton of stars. In total, the sail took around 16 hours, but I could not stay awake for it all. Looking bac,k it was really fun and eventful, struggling to stay awake with nothing but a Redbull, and 4 Coke Zeros, I was battling all of my instincts to fall asleep, but we got to Saba safe and sound! The reason why most of us were able to fight the sea sickness is because of a kid named Jials. Jials is a kid from the other Minerva boat, and he gave us some tips to motivate us to keep pushing through the rough parts. After breakfast and lunch we went for a dive, and saw a few sea turtles, and even a pile of sleeping nurse sharks, we finally were able to unwind, and chat about many things! Evan, ImIm, and I were talking about Thai food, and of course Evan carried the conversation, learning about ImIm’s home country’s food and culture!
