Location: Wells Bay, Saba
This morning started at 7:00, followed by a quick breakfast of cereal before getting ready for our full day on shore. After we were all ready, Matty P dinghied us to a pile of rocks where we climbed to get to land. We met up with the other Minerva boat and all got in a taxi, which took us up a big hill into the town of Saba. When we arrived, we split up into two different groups based on who wanted to go on a longer and harder hike or a shorter and slightly easier one. At first, we all chose to go on the longer hike, but unfortunately, some of us were not wearing proper footwear and had to go on the easier hike because it was less slippery. Tati, Jackson, Evan, JJ, and I went on the longer hike with Zoe and a few of the kids from the other boat while everyone else went on the shorter one with Riley. The hike consisted of lots and lots of stairs, but it looked like we were in a rainforest, and it was cool. We saw some cows, goats, and lizards, and when we got to the top, we were in the clouds, and JJ tried to eat them, and the view was pretty. When we reached the bottom again, we went to a restaurant for lunch, and we all got milkshakes and burgers, chicken tenders, or quesadillas, but Evan decided to be different and get a steak. While we were coming down from our hike and finishing lunch, Drake, Walker, Juni, Mia, and Im Im were at a shop making glass beads with a lady named JoBean and kids from the other boat. After we finished lunch, we walked up the hill and switched places with everyone who was at the glass shop, and they went to eat lunch. We all got to make glass beads with JoBean, and it was very fun. When we were done there, we got into a taxi, which took us to customs, where we met up with everyone else. We then sat around there for a while and waited to be picked up in dinghies to go back to the boat. Our dinghies were not very fast, and our boats were on the other side of the island, so it took a while for them to reach us. However, after a 20-minute ride back, we all changed into our bathing suits and played around in the water, then showered. We used JJ’s ball, which he bought at the store the other day, to play baseball, and we also played a game where we would all sit in the dinghy and try to push each other off. We then had burgers for dinner, which were very good, and are finishing the night with a sail chat and maybe The Lorax, which Sela downloaded for us today.
