Location: Great Harbour, Peter Island

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the first session! Between getting to know Blue Venture’s thirteen dynamic shipmates, and learning the ropes (lines!?) of ActionQuest as a first-time staff member, it’s been a whirlwind of diving, enthusiasm, and unbelievable sunsets. The days have been long and full, with activities ranging from diving deep shipwrecks with our Neptune students to dissecting sharks with our Dolphin students… there has been no shortage of learning!

Boat life is fantastic. Nothing beats waking up to (so far) calm seas, and the sun is rising over the Caribbean! Our 46-foot catamaran has been a real treat to live on, and Matty and I have been thankful to have our shipmates so eager to help run it. Everybody has had different tasks daily; whether it be working the compressor to keep our scuba tanks full, navigating our course for the day, or cooking three meals a day for fifteen people. We’ve all stayed busy, and have gone to bed each day with a sense of accomplishment.

It looks to be an incredible week coming up. We hope to be diving the Chikuzen, a massive wreck, as well as sending the students off with their dive buddies on their first-night dive sans instructors; we’re so excited to see all of their new underwater navigation skills get put to good use! We’ll also have our ‘landlegs’ get whipped back into shape when we climb Mount Sage.

Fantastic shipmates, awesome attitudes, and the blessing of great weather and conditions have made this an unreal experience so far. I can hardly wait to see what the second half of the session brings! (As long as there’s no dubstep being played before 10 am).
