Location: The Bight, Norman Island

Hi, my name is Sloane, I am fourteen years old, and I am from Los Angeles! After waking up at 6:30 on the dock this morning, we all had breakfast which was cereal and a melon. After breakfast, we went to a long orientation with the head, Mike, and then got ready to leave Westend on the island, Tortola. Before we left, we took a group picture in our newly assigned PFDs. Amelia, our skipper, gave us a talk about boat safety, and Tait, our program director, talked about student conduct. A little later, we got taught how to raise the sails, and we sailed to Norman Island to moor for lunch. After lunch and a bit of rain, we went to private tier bay to take the swim test, where some people saw a turtle during it.

Then we went on the dinghy “Junior” to snorkel in the caves and saw some colorful fish while snorkeling, like a barracuda, sea urchins, and parrot fish. The boys are going to use the fish ID boat to find out what kind of other fish they saw. After that, we took showers where we jump into the ocean to clean off. Then we picked up the anchor and headed back to the Bight for the night. When we got there, we had dinner made by Marcelo and Mina, which was Sloppy Joe’s, and there were lots of seagulls flying around our boat. After dinner, we did squeeze, which is where we talk about our appreciation for the day and a question that helps us get to know each other. My question was, are fish wet? Now we are doing clean up. After clean up, we will have a lesson on BVI cultural and social history. Then we go to sleep. Bye!
