Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
The day began early with the sound of motors. As we rode from Sommers Beach to “Shark Point,” we slept or watched the beautiful green trees engulf the scattered houses.
Once we arrived at “Shark Point,” we quickly set up our gear and splashed for a self-led fun dive. Everyone swam along the great rock wall. From the crumbling boulder wall grew vibrant stag horn and brain coral bustling with angel and parrot fish! Each buddy team kicked along the barrier for twenty-five minutes, then made our way back to the boat.
We chilled on the boat for a bit and then got ready for our second dive of the day: a navigation dive! We used a jackstay pattern to rescue a sunken weight lost in the sand.
Everyone returned to some delicious quesadillas. Before we took off again, everyone took advantage of the bright blue water. We spent the hour jumping off the boat and swimming, including the biggest slash contest and a handful of flips.
Finally, we made our way to our final destination for the day, Cane Garden Bay. We moored, then began our emergency oxygen training, where we set up non-resuscitator demand valve (for breathing divers), non-rebreather (for divers breathing weakly), and continuous flow (for non-breathing divers) masks. The long day came to an end with a movie accompanied by chocolaty brownies and a gorgeous view.
