Location: Marina Cay
Today, Margo, Xavi, Jimena, Aliya, Poppy, Raiden, and Lulu went to the boat Nomada to participate in the introductory sail training day. Meanwhile, Jorge, Zach, Max, Loren, and Bea remained on our boat, Glad 2 Be Here, to take part in the advanced sailing course. Some students from other boats also joined us on Glad2BeHere for the advanced session.
Before the advanced course began, we motored over to Leverick Bay to refill water tanks, and Will bought everyone ice cream and goldfish. After that, we practiced man-overboard maneuvers. We used a fender, a buoyant flotation device usually used to protect boats from crashes, to represent a person who had fallen into the water. Everyone took turns rotating through different roles during the drill. The main roles included the person helming the boat, someone pointing to the person overboard, and another person using a hook to try and retrieve them. This helped us understand how to act quickly and safely during real emergencies.
Once all the training and drills were completed, everyone returned to their original boats. Later in the day, when people were showering, we noticed a few jellyfish in the water. Some people got really close!
As for meals, we started the day with cereal for breakfast. At lunchtime, we had macaroni and cheese, and for dinner, we enjoyed tortellini. Overall, it was a productive and eventful day of sailing and learning.
