Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda

Today began at 12:01 am with a happy birthday song and a wish with a lighter. Breakfast today was eggs, toast, and (per the birthday girl’s request) baked beans. We had a long passage to the dive site Ginger Steps. It was a long two and a half hours of being underway. We got drenched by water on the trampoline and got thrown around by the waves. As a seasick victim, it was very rocky. The puke contest has officially started; I, Maddy, as the current leader. The dive site was a sandy and shallow reef. We saw many fish, and Caroline found a lobster. It was worth the long haul through the rocky seas.

After our dive, we immediately left the site and began another, calmer passage to Mountain Point. Although I still felt the effects of motion sickness, it was much more enjoyable. When we came back, Amanda and I helped the staff dock the boat using rope and a boulder from shore. We drove a dingy to shore and ended up having to jump in after our rope. We started to set up the confined water enclosure as we will begin assisting the younger students with open water certifications tomorrow.

The Mountain Point site is very calm and beautiful, a much-needed change from our rocky beginnings today. We took an ocean shower and relaxed in the evening. Ava and I saw a stingray right underneath us as we floated. We had pasta and sausage for dinner and ended with a birthday cake. All in all: a top ten birthday.
