Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
June 24 started with a 6:45 wake-up call. Today was laundry day, so we all began collecting our clothing from our rooms and off the lines so they could be cleaned for the coming weeks. Once everyone was finished collecting their laundry Trey and Rhiannon began working on breakfast burritos, blueberry muffins, and cantaloupe. Definitely one of the best breakfasts we have had here yet. Once that was finished, we clean up. Ryan, Shay, Alicia, Simon, and Niko helped with the dishes. We then debriefed our unresponsive diver at the surface scenarios. In these scenarios, when we see an unresponsive diver, we learn to approach the diver, inflate their BCD, flip the diver over, establish buoyancy, and begin rescue breaths. Then all the divers swam around for an hour, repeating this scenario over and over again, some doing better than others.
Once we got out of the water, we were treated to grilled cheese. Some people added toppings to their grilled cheese, like garlic powder or ketchup. Once the dishes were done, Rooks and Lucas helped deckie. After lunch was over, we had more diving to do and needed to add more steps to our rescue scenarios. We briefed our next dive. This consisted of adding pocket masks to our dives which we learned can help make a tight seal to stop water from getting into the patient’s mouth. We continued to get back into the water and do our second round of scenarios for another hour or hour and a half. Once we got out of the water, we were disassembling our gear when we heard people screaming for help from the water. Since Scott had his scuba tank still on, he got back in the water, swam out to Bianca, and Andrew swam out to go save Griffin. The panicked divers were all ok! After everyone safely returned to the boat, we hung out, took saltwater showers, and ate dinner. Dinner today was Thanksgiving, so it had gravy and stuffing and green beans with chicken. Some guests came over for dinner, and we definitely made it eventful for them, but we all had a great day. Now we are finishing our night off watching top gun.
