Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today was a fantastic day at AQ. It was our first race day! Today I was skipper, so I woke up bright and early to go to the skipper’s meeting for the first race of the day while the rest of my shipmates finished up breakfast. After breakfast, all eight boats line up at the starting line near Jost van Dyke, and we were off to West End, Tortola. Our boat finished in third place after the 45-minute long race. At the end of the race, we experienced a short rain shower as we motored to the dock at West End, but it quickly passed and continued to be a beautiful sunny day. At West End, we had shore time. Most of us got lunch and smoothies at Omar’s, which was delicious. Around 12:30 pm I went to the second skipper’s meeting of the day, where we went over today’s second race. Unlike today’s first race, which was downwind, the second race was upwind, from West End to Peter Island. This meant we had to do a lot more tacking. The second race lasted about two hours. As we sailed, we enjoyed some great music, the incredible views of the BVI, and discussed our strategies to make our boat sail as fast as possible. It was a very close race at the end, but we once again ended in 3rd place. After we anchored, we ate delicious Mexican food for dinner with an unbelievably majestic sunset surrounded by the calls of goats who dwell on Peter Island.
