Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
This morning, we woke up early and headed upstairs to have oatmeal for breakfast. I had to leave breakfast early to attend a skipper meeting to plan our sail day today and learn more about charting. All of the skippers from each boat came together, and we all decided on what positions our boats would start in for the race. We started in 5th place from the wind out of 8. We had a great start and were accelerating at what seemed like unrealistic speeds because we accidentally cheated and left our motor on. We got disqualified that first sail but headed onto shore. We returned to the same dock we had first started at. It was really weird to see it again, but it was really cool because we got to walk around for 4 hours and shop around and go into a grocery market. I went to my second skipper meeting at 1:00, where all of the skippers discussed our second sail race. We started in 5th place again and made sure our motor was not on this time, so we actually had a chance at winning. We left the dock and started sailing upwind. It was the windiest sail we had ever had, and we stayed there for a very long time. Some people worked on tacking because we had to do a lot of that to get upwind. Other people worked on the main sail and the jib. During the middle duration of our sail, we maintained a steady pace around 3rd place.
Towards the end, everybody had a really good understanding of what had to be done, and we started passing each boat slowly. Everyone’s efforts really paid off because we ended up making a huge comeback from the morning and making it 1st place! We were all super excited and jumped into the ocean to shower after we moored and rafted. Tonight, we are rafted with all of the other boats on our sail side. We had breakfast for dinner tonight, which included biscuits, beans, eggs, and sausages. We all agreed that it was one of the best and most fun meals. Right now, we are cleaning up and preparing for sailing jeopardy to test our knowledge before our big sail exams. We will also get to walk on the other boats and see our friends. Overall, it was a really fun day.
