Today was a very exciting day. All of the sailing training we had done for the past three weeks was showcased at our race. The boats we raced against included, Amused, Shape Up, MaryLee, Oddessy, Friendship, Soul Rebel, and Avizia. Our sweaters, the people who put up our main sail were Reese Roth and Enya. The race started out with Amused and MaryLee taking the early lead neck to neck. After a while, Amused rocketed to first by what looked like a mile (their boat was larger than all the others making them move faster). MaryLee was directly in front of us while we were talking, making us around 15 feet apart, and our Reese Rut, who was at the helm, kept us from a crash.
When we got within 30 feet of MaryLee, we threw rotten fruits like cantaloupes, apples, and oranges at their boat. Brij threw many eggs that crashed right on the boat. At the very end of the race, we were standing in 3rd place, and we looked to our starboard side to see Shape Up zooming by, passing us while we tack for our final placing of 4th place, which is pretty good for the youngest boat in the whole fleet. After the race, we began to pack for our upcoming travel days and clean up the boat. When Jake came by to check our boat, and it was clean enough to have our very last shore time. Georgia, Eliza, and Libby got delicious smoothies from the local cafe. Before we knew it, we were back at the boat to auction off the ActionQuest flag we sailed with. Everyone got a piece of the flag, and you could pay any amount, and AQ will donate the profits to charity. Reid considered auctioning Mike’s full flag, which was normally auctioned for $100-$300 each year, so he decided it was too much money. Ocean showers were interesting today since we are docking. In order to wash the shampoo/conditioner out of your hair, you had to be dunked in the water by your ankles. Charles and Max attempted to get Matty P into the water, which was unsuccessful, of course, because Matty P refuses to ever be pushed into the water. We prepared to go to the barbecue, and midway through the barbecue, we headed to the spot we had our first talk with Mike, and he read All The Places You Will Go to finish off our trip. For the rest of the night, everyone explored and visited other boats. Dalila visited MaryLee and other boats to visit some friends.
