Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Hi everyone! This is Robert, and I am once again the skipper of the day and will try to do my best to illustrate today’s events. We started the morning off with a pleasant surprise when Gwen had already prepared the pancake mix for breakfast. Miles and Ella finished the job by making amazing pancakes. While we ate, some of the instructors of our boat went off to a staff meeting where they were briefed on confidential info that us boat mates know nothing about. After they got back, we were almost on our way to head over to Sandy Spit but first had to practice and master knots. The type of knots we worked on were the cleat knot, bowline, figure eight knot, clove hitch, and square knot. I got to help teach Ben and Sipora. After we practiced and tried to master multiple knots, we set sail to go do some sailing practice which consisted of more M.O.B drills (Man Overboard Drills) and a sailing circle where we hit all points of sail starting on a close reach, then moving to a close haul to a tack and a close haul on the opposite side, then to a close reach, to a beam reach, to a broad reach. We decided to end it there and not to go running downwind because we needed to get to our destination. For those groups, we split into two groups and were divided by our numbers of odds and evens. The event team consisted of Ellie, Miles, Sipora, Ben, Makena, and Henry, while the odd team consisted of Owen, Evie, Jack, Sophia, Ella, and me. After finishing all of the drills, we reached Sandy Spit, where we got to relax on the nice beach for a little bit before we went back to the boat. We got back to the boat and started the evening off with a dinner of franks and beans (which is hot dogs and beans for those who don’t know) with a special guest named Sam Williamson, who used to be the operations director for Action Quest. After a gas dinner, we had a squeeze, where I came up with a question that everyone answered their best. Now here I am writing the blog of the day. P.S. – Love you, Mama and Papa, and tell Mills I miss her when she gets back. Your Skipper, Robert H.
